The CCircle's mission is to expand an atmosphere of love and growth utilizing the Michael Chekhov approach to acting.
We are a group of dedicated artists radiating the power of love and self discovery. We work to develop our sense of concentration and connection to the universal realm of the imagination, allowing us to convey images to an audience regardless of cultural background.
Michael Chekhov, nephew of playwright Anton Chekhov, is one of theatre's best kept secrets. Born in Russia in 1891, he studied theatre under Konstantin Stanislavski who referred to Chekhov as his "most brilliant student." Unfortunately, Michael Chekhov never achieved the same level of popularity as numerous other acting teachers, such as Stella Adler and Lee Strasberg. His concepts were too ahead of their time and were difficult for the 20th century world to fully digest. In recent decades the Michael Chekhov approach to acting has gained considerable attention; the world is ready for Chekhov!
Many approaches to acting are based off the concept that using the individual experience of the actor to connect to the character will generate a sense of truth. Chekhov developed tools to access the higher realm of the imagination, allowing the actor to go beyond themselves to find universal truths. In doing this, the artist moves from the individual ego into the collective consciousness, allowing for greater freedom in art and life.
The CCircle is a nomadic theatre troupe, performing in theatres as well as unconventional locations. Our collective training is global, spanning 4 continents. We are centered out of Bakersfield, California.
